Palestinian refugees are living in inhumane, harsh living conditions. A large pile of garbage, polluted and unhealthy, dominates the main thoroughfare into and out of the Ain El-Hilweh camp, located at the lower street entrance. This scene is visible only after passing through the Lebanese army checkpoint, which is part of a 40-foot wall surrounding most of the camp. These rubbish piles are a frequent occurrence and result from the failures of UNRWA, the Lebanese government, and various Palestinian factions.
